Armed men suspected to belong to terror group al-Shabaab have attacked Yumbis police camp in Garissa.
According to reports, the militants attacked the camp on Wednesday, night July 22.
The militants destroyed a communication mast before launching attack on the police camp.
Locals said they heard gunshots and explosions around 6pm when the attack is said to have occurred.
A resident of Fafi by the name Mo Diis said this was the second attack in the constituency in three weeks.
”It is with regret that I update the country that Yumbis is under attack since 6 pm from the senseless al-shabab lets beef up enough security in the area and keep our community in prayers. This is the 2nd attack in Fafi Constituency in the last 3 weeks,” the resident said.
The police camp in Yumbis hosts the border patrol police officers.
Northeastern regional police chief Rono Bunei confirmed the attack but did not reveal the extent of the attack in terms of casualties.
This is the third attack on Yumbis police camp in the last five years, strangely all attacks occurred on the 22nd.
