Section of Somalis in Somalia and around the world have turned to social media to congratulate new Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble after his appointment on Friday, September 18.
The announcement naming Mohamed Hussein Roble as PM was made by Somalia’s President Mohamed Farmaajo on Twitter.
The news of Roble’s appointment immediately trended on social media with many congratulating him.
Somalis said this was one of the toughest periods in the country and hoped the new PM will get things done.
According to veteran Somali journalist Harun Maruf, the new Somalia PM is new to politics.
”According to people who known him he is a graduate of Somali National University in civil engineering. Most recently, he was working for the International Labour Organisation office in Nairobi,” Maruf said.
Somalis in Kenya hope the new prime minister will improve relations with Kenya and help in the war against terror group al-Shabaab as he has lived in Nairobi.
”I hope Mohamed Hussein Roble will support President Uhuru Kenyatta in the fight against al-Shabaab both in Kenya & Somalia. Its my hope that finally UNSC will Sign the Petition enlisting al-Shabaab as a terrorist outfit,” Farhana Ahmed said.
Mohamed Hussein Roble will replace former Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire, who was voted out of office by parliament in July after being impeached.
Khaire recently declared his candidacy as president in the upcoming general election.
Farmajo appointed Roble shortly after reaching an agreement on the upcoming elections with federal member state leaders in Mogadishu.
Roble will now form a new government that will lead the country through the transition period as Somalia prepares for a general election.
